BREAKBOT, dit is een van de vetste underground producers die ik ken. Zijn funky producties zijn in Europa nog nagenoeg onbekend, terwijl hij toch een remix heeft gemaakt voor Justice hun EP die in Japan is gereleased. In Japan is hij dus wat bekender dan in Europa, hij zit daarom ook bij het bekende Japanse label Moshi Moshi Records. Ik ben altijd erg gecharmeerd van zijn producties en vind daarom ook dat hij meer bekendheid verdient. Daarom een interviewtje met deze (hoe kan het ook anders) Parijse producer. Vergeet ook niet wat van zijn tracks te downloaden die onderaan het interview te vinden zijn!
Is it true that producers from Paris have magic in their fingers?
Don't know about that !! The producers I like in Paris are not that many..
Your sound seems to be inspired by the 70's. Where do you get your inspiration out of?
It is true that I get much inspiration from old stuff. I listen to everything but I really enjoy the early eighties funk and pop scene. Albums as 'lite me up' by herbie hancock really or 'dirty mind' by Prince really speak to me.
Which instruments and hardware/software do you use for producing? Because it seems you also use a lot of samples?
I use Live and Reason mostly, and a midi keyboard. I also have a huge stinky pile of funk cds where i get my samples from. I try to cover my back though..
Do you play live or do you dj and what was your best gig?
I dj with live.
I think the best gig was probably the one I just did with Krazy Baldhead in Bruxelles for the New year's eve. It was a very fun night.
What was the best song of 2007 for you?
The best song of 2007 : I will name more than one, Calvin Harris 'merrymaking' remix by Oizo, Radio Ladio by Metronomy and Phantom part II by Justice. I also really liked 'bathroom gurgle' by late of the pier.

What do you think about the french sound nowadays? And of the french sound in the past?
I don't know if there's a french sound. It seems to me that the labels institubes and ed banger (for instance) are really different in terms of sound and music, even if they speak to the same kids.
Do you know some Dutch producers?
Nope, or maybe I know them without knowing they're dutch !
Do you really look that good in real life as on your profile pics?
No, I don't really look that good, I'm much thiner, I don't smile (I have what you could call english teeth), and I don't wear that outfit. I should though. My profile pic is based on a drawing of one of Eisenhower's sons that I found in a Richard Nixon's family paper dolls book.
Do you do more in music then only Breakbot?
just Breakbot. I used to be bass vocalist in a doo-wap band but it never really worked out.
Are you doing something else besides making music?
It depends. I don't really have a daily life, which is the best part of having two jobs. My second job is to direct commercials and motion design shit.
Which band or artists will be the surprise of 2008?
Don't know. I guess it will be a surprise.
